E. V. K. S. ELANGOVAN TAKES CHARGE AS
MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

Shri E. V. K. Elangovan took charge as the Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry here today. On assuming charge of the portfolio, Shri Elangovan held discussions with Commerce Secretary Shri Dipak Chatterjee; Secretary of Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion; Shri Laxmi Chand and Special Secretary (Commerce) Shri S. N. Menon who briefed him about the functions of the Ministry.
A member of Indian National Congress, Shri Elangovan has been elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from Gobichettipalayam in Tamil Nadu. A grandson of renowned social reformer Thanthai Periyar, Shri Elangovan was the Member of Tamil Nadu Assembly during 1984-1988 and was also President of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. A graduate of the Presidency College of Chennai, he is married to Varalakshmi and has two sons. He loves music and likes watching television news channels.
