INDIA’S FOREIGN TRADE: APRIL- FEBRUARY, 2001-2002

India’s exports during April-February, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 39749.80 million which is 0.06% higher than the level of US $ 39726.25 million during April- February, 2000-2001. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs.189300.03 crore, which is 4.43% higher than the value of exports during April- February, 2000-2001.
Exports during February 2002 are valued at US $ 3722.77million which is 0.76% higher than the level of US $ 3694.63 million in February 2001. In rupee terms the exports were Rs.18125.89 crore, which is 5.47% higher than the value of exports during February, 2001.
India’s imports during April- February, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 46515.69 million representing a growth of 2.23% over the level of imports valued at US $ 45500.50 million in April- February, 2000-2001.
Oil imports during April- February, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 12872.81 million which is 11.87% lower than oil imports valued at US $ 14606.15 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April- February, 2001-2002 are estimated at US $ 33642.88 million which is 8.90% higher than the level of such imports valued at US $ 30894.35 million in April- February, 2000-2001.
Imports during February 2002 are valued at US $ 3809.22 million which is 15.31% higher than the level of US $ 3303.48 million in February, 2001. In Rupee terms the imports increased by 20.70%.
The trade deficit for April- February, 2001-2002 is estimated at US $ 6765.89 million which is higher than the deficit at US $ 5774.25 million during April- February, 2000-2001.
Tables giving details of exports, imports and trade balance, according to the provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
