INDIA’S FOREIGN TRADE FOR THE YEAR 2001-2002

India’s exports during the financial year (April-March) 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 43998.53 million which is just 0.08% lower than the level of US $ 44035.37 million during April- March, 2000-2001. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs. 210010.93 crore, which is 3.16% higher than the value of exports during April- March, 2000-2001.
Exports during March 2002 are valued at US $ 4342.55 million which is 0.78% higher than the level of US $ 4309.12 million in March 2001. In rupee terms the exports were Rs. 21164.33 crore, which is 5.35% higher than the value of exports during March, 2001.
India’s imports during April-March, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 50654.01 million representing a growth of 1.08% over the level of imports valued at US $ 50113.25 million in April- March, 2000-2001.
Oil imports during April- March, 2001-2002 are valued at US $ 13669.00 million which is 12.73% lower than oil imports valued at US $ 15663.58 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April- March, 2001-2002 are estimated at US $ 36985.01 million which is 7.36% higher than the level of such imports valued at US $ 34449.67 million in April- March 2000-2001.
Imports during March 2002 are valued at US $ 4301.04 million which is 6.76% lower than the level of US $ 4612.75 million in March, 2001. In Rupee terms the imports decreased by 2.52%.
The trade deficit for April- March, 2001-2002 is estimated at US $ 6655.48 million which is higher than the deficit at US $ 6077.88 million during April- March, 2000-2001.
Tables giving details of exports, imports and trade balance, according to the provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
