PROHIBITION ON EXPORT OF NON-BASMATI RICE UNDER TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

PRESS NOTICE
It is hereby informed that the Central Government has, with immediate effect, prohibited any export of Non-Basmati Rice under the Transitional arrangements under Para 1.5 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-09 (as amended from time to time). It may be recalled that export of Non-Basmati Rice was prohibited vide Notifications No. 38 & 44 w.e.f. 10.10.2007. However, in order to honour the prior commitments of exporters, Non-Basmati Rice exports were being undertaken against valid irrevocable commercial letters of credit as provided in Para 1.5 of the Foreign Trade Policy. With the Notification No. 77 dated 7.02.2008 (available on website of the DGFT - http:// www.dgft.gov.in), export of Non-Basmati Rice against letters of credit as per Para 1.5 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2004-09 (as amended from time to time) has been prohibited.
