ANAND SHARMA FELICITATES CWG 2010 MEDAL WINNERS

Shri Anand Sharma, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, congratulated all the Indian Gold, Silver & Bronze Medal winners for their splendid performance in the Commonwealth Games 2010 at a felicitation function jointly organized by the State Trading Corporation of India Limited (STC), MMTC Limited and PEC Limited, here last evening. Speaking at the function, Shri Sharma commended the role of Indian players and said that it was indeed a great achievement and wished all success for the forthcoming Asian Games and Olympics and hope this performance is replicated there as well.
Shri Sharma said that it's really an honor to celebrate the spirit of sports with these greatest sporting legends for their timeless contribution in bringing unparallel glory to India. “It is a matter of great pride that these players have brought glory to the country and I hope that their excellent performances will encourage all organizations to incorporate Sport as a part of the curriculum to foster sportsmanship”, the Minister said.
The Indian Hockey Team present at the event was felicitated with a cash award of Rs. 16 lakhs along with the Indian Relay Team who was awarded cash prize of Rs. 8 lakhs. In addition, cash prizes of Rs 7.5 lakhs to each Gold Medal Winner, Rs. 5 lakh to each Silver Medal Winner and Rs. 3.5 lakhs to each Bronze Medal Winner, were also distributed.
While congratulating the medal winners, Shri N. K Mathur, CMD, STC, stated that, “STC will continue to support excellence in sports and all such endeavor. We have a global vision in effective management, result-oriented approach and strong belief in productivity and accountability. STC is future-ready to take advantage of the opportunities in the 21st century and propel its business beyond boundaries.”
“Sport, by nature, promotes happiness, discipline, character and builds team spirit. It is therefore an important ingredient for development of society and companies by their support are encouraging in building a national character amongst the youth to add to national pride”, said Shri H.S. Mann, CMD, MMTC, in his closing remarks.
