BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP WITH GERMANY
Date : 24 Nov 2010
Location : New Delhi
Germany is an important trading partner of India (rank 5 in 2009-10). India is keen to enhance bilateral trade with all countries including Germany. The India-Germany Joint Commission for industrial and economic cooperation which last met on September 23, 2010 in Delhi is the available institutional mechanism for furthering economic engagement. No separate agreement with Germany is under consideration. However, negotiations are underway with the European Union (of which Germany is a part) for a Broad based Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA). It can be reasonably expected that the BTIA will improve market access in goods and services mutually and expand trade opportunities in India and the EU.
Some of the areas of Indo-German cooperation including energy, agro-business, manufacturing, renewable energy, skill training and information technology.
This information was given by Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
