INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TRADE, INVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT –JAITLEY TO ADDRESS CLOSING SESSION

An International Conference on Trade, Investment and Development will be held here on 18-20 May, 2003. Shri Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, will address the concluding session of the Conference on 20th May, 2003, while Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, will inaugurate the Conference on 18th May.
The 3-day Conference, being organised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in association with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), is expected to have senior official level participation from 16 developing countries viz., Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, Venezuela, Zambia and Zambia. The Conference is being held under the aegis of the Government of India-UNCTAD-DFID project titled "Strategies and Preparedness for Trade and Globalisation in India".
The Conference will analyse issues of particular interest to developing countries in relation to trade, investment and development. Its objective is to provide an opportunity for the developing countries to debate and evaluate the implications of multilateral cooperation in the area of cross border investment from the point of view of their development policies and objectives.
