INDO PAK TRADE TALKS TO BEGIN TOMORROW

The 2-day (July 31-August 1) Secretary-level talks between India and Pakistan are scheduled to be held here from tomorrow. The Pakistani delegation would be led by Mr. Syed Asif Shah, Commerce Secretary while the Indian side would be led by Shri G.K. Pillai, Commerce Secretary. The other members of the Pakistani delegation include Mr. Aizaz Ahmed Choudhury, Director General (South Asia and SAARC) and Mr. Shahid Hussain Raja, Additional Secretary.
The agenda for the talks include trade in goods and services, important issues like tea exports from India, joint registration of basmati rice (GI), discussion on expanding bilateral trade, new items for trade such as cement etc.
The bilateral trade between the two countries have grown at an impressive rate during the past 2 years. Pakistan exports to India have grown from US $ 94.97 million (2004-05) to US $ 323.19 million (2006-07). The Indian exports have grown from US $ 521.05 million (2004-05) to US $ 1003.22 million (2006-07).
