The export of perishable items are permitted freely under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP).

The Government has been coordinating with export promotion agencies such as Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Export Inspection Council (EIC) by providing necessary technical inputs and financial assistance. APEDA through its schemes for Infrastructure Development Scheme for Quality Development, Scheme for Market Development and the Scheme for Research & Development has been making efforts to expand export of products including processed food items. As a result of these measures, the exports of perishable items have increased from Rs.7970.01 crore during 2006-07 to Rs.12020.98 crore during 2008-09.

This information was given by Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
