INDIA’S EXPORTS CONTINUE ON A DOUBLE DIGIT GROWTH TRAJECTORY FOREIGN TRADE DATA FOR THE FIRST QUARTER: APRIL- JUNE 2003-2004

India’s exports during April-June, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 13147.45 million which is 11.06% higher than the level of US $ 11838.00 million during April-June, 2002-2003. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs. 61868.77 crore, during April-June, 2003-2004 which is 6.75% higher than the value of exports during April-June, 2002-2003.

Exports during June, 2003 are valued at US $ 4283.86 million which is 10.95% higher than the level of US $ 3861.12 million during June, 2002. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs. 20009.83 crore, which is 5.84% higher than the value of exports during June, 2002.

India’s imports during April-June, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 17328.81 million representing an increase of 27.05% over the level of imports valued at US $ 13638.89 million in April-June, 2002-2003.

Oil imports during April-June, 2003-2004 are valued at US $ 4818.02 million which is 17.94% higher than oil imports valued at US $ 4085.10 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April-June, 2003-2004 are estimated at US $ 12510.79 million which is 30.95% higher than the level of such imports valued at US $ 9553.79 million in April-June, 2002-2003.

Imports during June, 2003 are valued at US $ 5893.57 million representing an increase of 38.65 % over the level of imports valued at US $ 4250.70 million in June, 2002. In Rupee terms the imports increased by 32.26% during June, 2003-2004.

The trade deficit for April-June, 2003-2004 is estimated at US $ 4181.36 million which is higher than the deficit at US $ 1800.89 million during April-June, 2002-2003.

Tables giving details of exports, imports and trade balance, according to the provisional estimates of Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI&S), are attached.
