EXPORTS UP BY 20 PER CENT IN DOLLAR TERMS

India's exports during April-February, 2000-2001 are valued at US $ 39545.67 million (US $ 39.5 billion) which is 20.03% higher than the level of US $ 32945.56 million (US $ 32.9 billion) during April- February, 1999-2000. In rupee terms, the exports were Rs.180425.40 crore, which is 26.40% higher than the value of exports during April- February, 1999-2000. Exports during February, 2001 are valued at US $ 3760.09 million (US $ 3.7 billion) which is 10.46% higher than the level of US $ 3403.97 million in February, 2000. In rupee terms the exports were Rs.17490.71 crore, which is 17.81% higher than the value of exports during February, 2000.

India's imports during April- February, 2000-2001 are valued at US $ 45377.43 million representing a growth of 6.65% over the level of imports valued at US $ 42547.81 million in April- February, 1999-2000.

Oil imports during April- February, 2000-2001 are valued at US $ 14595.85 million which is 66.17% higher than oil imports valued at US $ 8783.43 million in the corresponding period last year. Non-oil imports during April- February, 2000-2001 are estimated at US $ 30781.58 million which is 8.83% lower than the level of such imports valued at US $ 33764.38 million in April- February, 1999-2000.

Imports during February, 2000-01 are valued at US $3378.21 million which is 15.36% lower than the level of US $ 3991.20 million in February, 1999-2000. In Rupee terms the imports decreased by 9.72%.

The trade deficit for April- February, 2000-2001 is estimated at US $ 5831.76 million which is lower than the deficit at US $ 9602.25 million during April- February, 1999-2000.
